Pyramid Valley Field of Fire Chardonnay 2020
Aromas of struck match, mushroom and toasted nuts with melon and white peach tucked just beneath. A lemony acidity on the palate that sculpts a straight line down the middle of the tongue. Still a baby, this should last the ages.
The vines were densely planted between 2000-2002 farmed biodynamically from inception. This tiny, south-east facing block has slightly variable soils, graduating from top to bottom on the slope, through primarily shallow glauconitic clays over chalky limestone; 20-25% clay, 5-10% active lime. Hand-picked on 12th April 2020, the grapes were foot stomped and whole bunch pressed. Vineyard yeast ferment, in aged French oak barrels. Then aged on light lees for 6 months in stainless steel prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered in June 2022.
