Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir 2021
The flagship Pinot Noir ‘Tiwha’ pays tribute to the owner's late father. An elegant yet powerful wine. Delivers a very attractive strawberry and sour cherry nose with a silky mouthfeel. Balanced with the delightful acidity that the Coal Pit site is known for.
The Pinot Noir grapes were hand-harvested between 6th – 23rd April 2021, at Coal Pit’s organically farmed vineyard, planted on glacially formed schist-based soils. The grapes were partially destemmed, with approximately 20% left as whole bunches in the ferment to enhance complexity and tannin structure. Fermentation was carried out using 100% wild yeasts. The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak, of which 28% was new. Bottling was 23rd February 2022, followed by 18 months bottle ageing before release.
