Matching Vineyards to Wine Styles

Matching Vineyards to Wine Styles

Radburnd’s carefully selected vineyards around Hawke’s Bay are similar in that they are either Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accredited or organic, but they each have local characteristics, which reflect the wine styles they want to make.

The stunningly attractive Mangatahi vineyard site is inland, moderately elevated and has free draining shingle plains sloping gently to the flinty Ngaruroro River. Soils in the Bridge Pa Triangle are based on free draining red metal gravels overlaid by alluvium.

Selected sites on the gravelly soils of the old Ngaruroro River are free draining and low in fertility, resulting in struggling vines producing fruit of great concentration.
And the beautiful and sheltered Dartmoor Valley site is inland and elevated with natural terraces. The vineyard has sandy loam over gravel soils, left behind as the Tutaekuri River eroded its path to the sea.

“Wine is about enjoying with family and friends, and with beautiful food. And that is the most satisfying thing for us at Radburnd Cellars – we make this wine which we enjoy sharing with other people. It can’t really get any better than that.” Kate Radburnd
