Paritua

Hawke’s Bay

Paritua is a distinguished winery located in the heart of the Bridge Pa Triangle wine region in Hawke's Bay. Established in the early 2000s, the vineyard spans approximately 53 hectares, with plantings initiated in 2003 and 2004 by the original owners, Brianne and Gary Fisher. The name ‘Paritua’ pays homage to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard, reflecting the winery's deep connection to the land and its history.

Their portfolio includes the boutique Paritua label, produced only in outstanding vintages, and the Stone Paddock selection, crafted annually. Their flagship wine, 21∙12, is a Bordeaux-style red blend that has gained critical acclaim. The winery's state-of-the-art facilities, designed in collaboration with leading New Zealand architects Crosson Clarke Carnachan, reflect a commitment to sustainability and harmony with the surrounding landscape.

Chief Winemaker

Jason Stent

Jason grew up in Hawke’s Bay, but his introduction to ‘premium’ wines was in Bordeaux, where he competed in cycling racing as a young man. Back in New Zealand, he began studying winemaking, and his first role was in 1995, when he became Assistant Winemaker at Sacred Hill Wines where he helped craft some of their most highly acclaimed Chardonnays and Syrah and blended red wines.

After a 13 year stint at Sacred Hill Wines he joined Paritua in 2008 where he has continued to craft wines that have a sense of place and which respect the varietal nature and the terroir in which the vine is grown. All wines produced from 2022 onwards are both organic and vegan-friendly.

Under his guidance, Paritua has gained recognition for producing exceptional wines, including their flagship Bordeaux blend, 21•12.

Place is Everything

Place is Everything

The Paritua vineyard is uniquely situated on the historical riverbed of the Ngaruroro River, which flowed through the area prior to the 1860s earthquake. This location provides stony, free-draining soils rich in minerals, ideal for cultivating premium grape varieties. The terroir, combined with long, warm summers and crisp winters, creates exceptional conditions for viticulture – especially suited to producing high-quality Bordeaux-style reds, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.

They have a strong belief in sustainability and the preservation of the land. The vineyards and winery converted to full Organic Certification in February 2022, and are also accredited by Sustainable Winegrowers of New Zealand (SWNZ).

The combination of warm climate, gravelly soils, and sustainable practices at Paritua results in wines with depth, structure, and a strong sense of place, making it one of Hawke’s Bay’s premier organic vineyards.

“Paritua is a Hawke’s Bay winery that has steadily grown in stature over the and certainly has a place on my watch list of rising stars.” Bob Campbell MW
