Jules Taylor

Marlborough

Founded in 2001 by winemaker Jules Taylor, and co-owned with husband George, Jules Taylor Wines began as a modest venture, producing just 200 cases, but it has grown to be a celebrated winery, renowned for producing high-quality small batch wines that capture the essence of the region, and which are very clearly designed to be for everyday enjoyment.

Born in Marlborough in the year the first vines were planted, Jules has literally grown up with Sauvignon Blanc, and it’s no surprise that her Sauvignon Blanc is a true reflection of the region’s style – bright and grassy. But the rest of the range ( a Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and luscious summertime Rosé), are consistently fine boutique wines bursting with flavour.

Jules has been integral to the region's wine evolution. Her journey includes a postgraduate degree in viticulture and oenology, before becoming Group Senior Winemaker for one of Marlborough’s largest wineries, and then Consultant Winemaker to the region’s most prestigious brands.

Several vintages in Italy underscored Jules’ love of wine as a simple pleasure to be enjoyed alongside good food and great friends.

Jules left her corporate winemaking career to give her the freedom to make wines the way she thinks they should be made. She only makes one batch of each wine every harvest.

In 2021, Jules Taylor was honoured as New Zealand Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. The judges commended her as ‘one of New Zealand’s modern pioneers,’ highlighting her outstanding wines, pride in her region, and mentorship of emerging winemakers.

Keeping it Local and Sustainable

Keeping it Local and Sustainable

Authenticity and sustainability are pillars of Jules Taylor Wines’ approach to winemaking. They source grapes from a few, local growing families they trust, because they care about what they produce.

All of the grapes, wines and production facilities for Jules Taylor Wines are accredited by the New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowers scheme.

In 2022 they bottled their first certified organic wine: the 2021 vintage ""On The Quiet"" Pinot Noir from the biodynamically farmed Wrekin Vineyard was released in 2023.

All their wines are made with a minimal intervention approach, handling the wines as little as possible and avoiding additives wherever possible.

And as a business, they are part of the NZ Winegrowers’ innovative greenhouse gas emissions benchmarking project, they bottle their wines at Wineworks NZ (a certified Carbon Zero wine bottler) - amongst a host of other initiatives.

“We try to create wines that are not too complicated but reflective of the soils and the farmers that grow them, true to their variety with local characteristics.” Jules Taylor
